Ian Keay is able to assist his clients with a variety of legal issues. A main focus of his practice relates to real estate matters.  From residential purchases and sales to more complex commercial real estate transactions to the unique issues surrounding cottage and rural property transactions, Ian has completed thousands of real estate transaction for his clients.  Ian acts for both lenders and borrowers with respect to residential and commercial mortgage and re-financing work, including private lenders/borrowers.  Ian has experience assisting client’s with boundary disputes, “made land” (or "filled land") disputes with the Trent Severn Waterway and right-of-way issues, all of which are unique issues relating to waterfront and rural properties.  

Ian can provide comprehensive advice relating to contracts, including contract drafting and review.  This includes employment agreements, shareholder agreements, franchise agreements, and so on. 

Ian has assisted his clients on land use planning issues, including the preparation of severance applications, re-zonings and minor variances.  Ian is comfortable working with a team of bankers, private planners and surveyors for developer clients, both large and small.

Owner-operated businesses, franchisees, not-for-profit corporations as well as charities can get assistance with corporate law issues, including incorporating and completing the initial organization, corporate restructuring, maintaining and updating corporate minute books, drafting shareholder agreements and with shareholder disputes. Ian has acted on many commercial transactions involving the purchase/sale of a business.  This includes share purchases and asset purchases.

Ian can assist executors of estates with the administration of the estate, including obtaining a Certificate of Appointment for the Executor (also referred to as “probate”).  Ian has drafted Wills and Powers of Attorney, trust agreements, multiple Wills for business owners and has assisted countless clients with their Estate Planning.
