Ian Keay is the managing partner and practices in the areas of Real Estate, Business Law and Wills & Estates.
Real Estate. Ian has acted on thousands of purchase and sale transactions. From residential deals, to more complex commercial real estate transactions to the unique issues surrounding cottages and rural property transactions, Ian has considerable experience in real estate. Ian drafts agreements for private real estate transactions, acts for both lenders and borrowers on re-financing matters, secures title insurance for buyers and home owners and deals with the more obscure real estate law matters like boundary disputes, “made land” (or "filled land") disputes with the Trent Severn Waterway and right-of-way issues. Living and working in Ptbo in the heart of the Kawarthas, Ian regularly acts on cottage and rural/farm transactions.
Business Law. Ian advised his corporate clients on incorporations, partnerships, trust agreements and matters relating to their business. Ian regularly drafts contracts including shareholders agreements, lease agreements and franchise agreements. On the commercial side, Ian acts for buyers and sellers of businesses. Maintaining the corporate minute book and other compliance matters are regularly performed.
PIanning Law. Ian regularly assists clients on satisfying the severance conditions after a severance approval. Ian works with his client’s team consisting of bankers, private planning consultants and surveyors to crystallize an approved severance.
Wills & POAs. Ian regularly assists clients not with just drafting Wills & Powers of Attorney, but in assisting clients in developing an estate plan. For business-owner clients, this might mean drafting multiple Wills, multiple POAs and/or trust agreements.
Estate Administration. Ian assists executors with the administration of the estate. This includes applying for and securing the Certificate of Appointment for the Executor (“probate”), preparing and remitting the Estate Information Return to the Ministry of Finance and preparation of Estate Accounts.
